Tangled deep within the ghost netting was a tiny sea lion pup, exhausted and barely able to move. It had been clinging to the whale’s back for dear life.
The orca stayed perfectly still, floating calmly as the humans worked to snip the thick nylon cords away from the pup’s fragile body.
The silence on the boat was absolute as the last string was cut. The pup gave a small, weak cry and was gently lowered back into the water.
