The second whale wasn’t approaching Nan. Instead, it was slapping its massive tail against the surface of the water with violent, thunderous cracks. The sound echoed underwater like a warning, creating a wall of white foam and noise.
Nan was caught between two giants. One was pushing her relentlessly, while the other seemed to be in a state of high alert, its eyes fixed on the dark blue depths below them.
She looked down, squinting through her mask to see what the whales were so focused on. In the shadows of the deeper water, a long, grey shape was moving with calculated precision.
At first, she thought it was another whale. But as the silhouette sharpened, she recognized the distinct, jagged dorsal fin of a predator that didn’t belong in a peaceful encounter.
