The mystery deepened when Kim remembered a strange encounter she and her boyfriend, Adam, had on the way back down the trail. The woods had grown unusually quiet as the sun began to dip.
Near a cluster of old trees, they had spotted something glinting in the fading light. It was a set of keys, hanging from a branch as if they were being showcased.
They were Toyota keys, but the only other car in the gravel lot was a lone Hyundai Elantra. Out of curiosity, they pressed the unlock button on the fob.
The Hyundai’s lights flashed in the darkness. The keys belonged to the only other vehicle at the peak, but the owner was nowhere to be seen.
