Tucked into a crack in the brick was a small, sealed tin. Inside, Lucy found a series of letters and a photograph of a young girl who looked remarkably like Emma. The letters explained that the family had survived and moved away, leaving the room as a “time capsule” of their safety.
The tapping stopped that night. With the room finally opened to the light, the house felt lighter, as if it had finally finished telling its story.
Lucy decided to keep the hidden room as a library, a place of peace instead of secrets. She even left a small glass window in the new wall so the historical names would never be forgotten again.
As she tucked Emma into bed that night, the house was silent. Emma smiled and looked at the corner one last time. “They said thank you, Mommy,” she whispered before falling into a deep, peaceful sleep.
